Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also a seasoned public speech writer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit website that focuses on female representations in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working with issues that relate to the gender-specific harassment of women as well as others on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality from a very young age. In 2009, while in university she started the Feminist Frequency website. She was a young woman with a dream to develop an online series to examine the gender representations in games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. This attack didn't stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her resolve as feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency which is an educational non-profit that examines the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
